Heroes of Conservation
Welcome to Heroes of Conservation, where you can meet the people who are helping to protect animals and our planet.
Each hero has an inspiring story to tell about how they’re making the world a better place for wildlife. As you read their stories, think about how you can make a difference too. Use what you learn to inspire your own conservation journey and explore even more with your Save Our Species cards.
This month: Dr. Jane Goodall
In 1960, 26-year-old Jane Goodall left her home in England, venturing into the Gombe forest, Tanzania, so that she could study chimpanzees in their natural home.
As a scientist, Dr. Goodall made the important discovery that, like humans, chimps use tools. She also discovered that, like humans, chimps have emotions and form long term bonds.
Dr. Jane Goodall’s favorite animals were dogs. She said, ‘“I had a wonderful teacher in animal behavior from my dog Rusty- he taught me that animals have personalities, minds and feelings.”
